Spike
A time-boxed work item whose result is knowledge: an answer that unblocks an estimate or a design. The practice comes from Extreme Programming and is used with Scrum. The Scrum Guide does not define it. It does not promise an outcome a user receives, so it is not a user story. It is not a bug. The time box belongs to the spike. A sprint is the team's iteration and is not another name for a spike.
