Mean time to restore

The arithmetic mean, over failures in a stated window, of the time from each failure until the service is restored. The failure instant is incident failure at when it is known, and restored is incident restored at: the service meets its success criterion again. That can differ from the time the incident record is marked resolved and from the time a person acknowledges an alert. ITIL calls this metric mean time to restore service (MTRS). The abbreviation MTTR is also used for mean time to repair, mean time to resolve, and mean time to recover, so it is not a synonym here. DORA's recovery metric is failed deployment recovery time. That metric covers only recovery from a failed deployment and is summarized as a median, not as this mean.
