Deployment frequency

How often changes are successfully deployed to production, as a count per unit of time over a stated window. This is one of DORA's software delivery metrics, with lead time for changes, change failure rate, and failed deployment recovery time. A deployment that does not reach production is not counted. A deployment that reaches production and later needs remediation is still counted. The share that needs remediation is the change failure rate. One named release can be deployed more than once, so this counts deployments. A release to end users with no separate deployment, such as turning a feature flag on, counts when the team treats that release as the production release, and is not counted again when it is the same event as a deployment.

Measure

How it is computed

FormulaThe number of deployments that reached production in the window, divided by the length of the window. A deployment that never reaches production is excluded. Recomputed for the window.
